Pastor's Page: Please welcome our new Pastor Fred Dyer - he can be reached for Consultations, Visitations, prayer requests or other needs by contacting him at: 607-329-5634. We look forward to getting to know him better as he becomes another "member of the family." Email is: Pastor@AvocaUMC.com Pastor Fred Dyer was born in 1965 in Corning, NY and lived there most of his life. He graduated in 1983 from Elmira Christian Academy with a Regents Diploma. He attended Corning Community College for two years and then transferred to Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, PA for the next four years. In 1988 Pastor Fred was hired for his first youth group in Marcus Hook, PA., and at the same time was traveling with his Christian rock band “Latrea”. For the next 12 years he worked in professional church ministries with the titles of Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, Children’s Pastor, and Music Director. Moving back to Corning, NY he completed his Associates Degree at Corning Community College. In the year 2001 he accepted the position of Youth Director for Channahon United Methodist Church in Illinois where he had an 80 member youth group. At this time in Pastor Fred’s life God started calling him to look into the larger ministry of the church. So when he moved back to New York State, he started to pray about what future ministry to be involved in. God’s answer came first by getting married to his beautiful wife Liz in October 12, 2005. Second came the completion of Lay Speaking classes with the United Methodist Church. Finally came the answer to God’s new call on his life by accepting the position in 2008 to be the Pastor at Watkins Glen and Montour Falls United Methodist Churches. In his first year there he completed Licensing School and in October 2009 received his license to preach from the United Methodist Church. Then in June of 2010 he accepted a new appointment to the churches of Avoca and Kanona United Methodist Churches. His future plans are to go back to school and finish his bachelor’s degree and then continue his education at seminary so he can be ordained in the United Methodist Church. Thank you for visiting! Please stop by
on Sunday morning and personally meet with Pastor Fred, services begin 11 AM.
